When Things Matter is Balsam Country's first release. It is entirely written, performed, produced, mixed & mastered by members Matt Gardiner & Corey Tardiff.

On the day of its release, there was a severe thunderstorm in the Montreal borough of NDG. The storm generated a small cyclone that devastated the area, leaving thousands (Corey included) without power. Matt and Corey had to journey into the night, looking for a place with power and wifi to put the album online. They were dedicated to making it available on schedule. When things matter to the individual / collective, humans push through. And although they could’ve waited for the power to come back (which didn’t happen for two days) they made a story out of it, making it a memorable experience.
